Port St. Lucie preserves 105 acres in $2.5 million environmental investment

Port St. Lucie officials formally celebrated the acquisition of nearly 105 acres of land located between Interstate 95 and Southwest Rosser Boulevard, preserving the property from residential development. Purchased unanimously by City Council vote for $2.5 million, the newly named Rosser Lakes Preserve is being called one of the most significant environmental investments in city history and will eventually feature walking trails, fishing areas and passive recreational space for residents.

#IAMPSL Summit highlights sustainability and safety initiatives

The fourth annual #IAMPSL Citizen Summit drew hundreds of residents to the Port St. Lucie Community Center on February 7, where city leaders emphasized environmental sustainability, public safety efforts and responsible growth planning. The event reinforced the city’s recent All-America City recognition and spotlighted initiatives such as Naturally PSL, land acquisitions through the Community Land Bank and future projects including the privately funded $80 million soccer stadium at Walton & One, while also giving residents an opportunity to weigh in on the city’s continued expansion.

New cocktail lounge opens in downtown Fort Pierce

The Harbor Cocktail Lounge has opened on Avenue A in downtown Fort Pierce, bringing a nautical-themed bar experience featuring live music, karaoke, dueling pianos, mixology classes and special events. The lounge has partnered with Taco Dive to offer food delivery directly to patrons via QR code ordering, adding to the growing nightlife and entertainment options in the downtown district.

The Spotlight: Changemakers

Guardians for New Futures (GFNF4Kids)

Guardians for New Futures (GFNF) is a Port St. Lucie–based nonprofit dedicated to protecting and healing abused and neglected children on the Treasure Coast. Its mission is to support the unmet (unfunded) needs of maltreated children and increase community awareness about child abuse.

In 2021, GFNF opened the area’s first Children’s Advocacy Center – a child-friendly facility in Port St. Lucie where child victims from St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee (and beyond) receive forensic interviews, medical exams, trauma therapy and advocacy services all under one roof. By bringing together law enforcement, DCF, medical and therapeutic professionals, the GFNF Children’s Advocacy Center minimizes additional trauma and ensures each child’s voice is heard and their needs are met in a safe environment.
