🐝 What’s Buzzing: Local News
New film paints poignant picture of the Highwaymen
A new documentary, “Legends of the Highway,” premiered Oct. 25 in Jupiter, featuring nine of the original 26 Black landscape artists known today as the Florida Highwaymen. These artists — 25 men and one woman — made history in the 1950s–70s selling vibrant Florida landscapes from the trunks of their cars along the coast. The film highlights their groundbreaking artistry, their struggles, and the legacy that ultimately earned all 26 a place in the Florida Artists Hall of Fame. It is now available on DVD and on Amazon Prime.
Jensen Beach mansion cancels its holiday lights display
For the first time in decades, the beloved Christmas light display at the 50,000-square-foot Hutchinson Island mansion will not take place. Owner Elsa Eustace shared that the tradition is paused following the passing of her husband, Robert Eustace, earlier this year. The mansion’s annual showing drew thousands with its dazzling 700,000-light display — a holiday tradition cherished by families across Martin County.
Goodwill opens first-ever bookstore in Stuart
Book lovers, rejoice! Goodwill of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast has opened a new 8,170-square-foot bookstore at the Stuart Square Plaza. The store features thousands of gently used books, spanning every genre, plus an attended donation center. Open daily from 8 am–8 pm, this new location gives readers a bright, welcoming place to discover affordable books for all ages.
