🐝 What’s Buzzing: Local News

Indian River Citrus League closes as citrus industry contracts

The Indian River Citrus League has suspended operations as declining citrus production continues to shrink the number of growers in Florida’s Indian River District, a 200-mile region once considered prime citrus territory. Industry challenges including citrus canker, globalization, development pressure, droughts and freezes have significantly reduced output and membership, leading to insufficient dues to sustain the league’s day-to-day operations.

Mets bring crowds and community support to Clover Park

Clover Park came alive as the New York Mets opened their 2026 Spring Training home schedule in Port St. Lucie, drawing fans from across the region and beyond. The day included community-focused moments such as a 5K race that raised $8,500 for Treasure Coast Girls on the Run, along with ceremonial first pitches from local leaders, reinforcing the team’s ongoing impact on both tourism and local nonprofits.

St. Lucie County Fair marks 60 years of tradition

The St. Lucie County Fair opened its gates Friday for its 60th year, welcoming visitors with thrill rides, rodeo events, livestock exhibits and family-friendly attractions. Organizers expect attendance between 110,000 and 130,000 people, weather permitting, as hundreds of volunteers help carry on one of the Treasure Coast’s longest-running annual traditions.
